Winterizing Your Royal Standard Poodle

Winter can be fun, but it also brings a lot of challenges, especially when it comes to keeping our furry friends warm. This is especially true for Royal Standard Poodles, who have a shorter coat than other poodle breeds. At Diamond Show Poodles, we understand how important it is to keep these magnificent creatures warm and comfortable during the colder months, even if you own Royal Standard Poodles in California or another traditionally warmer state.

Invest in a Winter Coat – One of the easiest ways to keep your Royal Standard Poodle warm during the colder months is by investing in a winter coat. Not only will it keep them warm, but it will also protect their coat from harsh weather elements.

Keep Them Hydrated – It’s easy for pets to become dehydrated during the winter months, especially if they spend a lot of time outdoors. Always make sure your furry friend has access to fresh water and keep an eye on their water consumption.

Proper Grooming – Regular grooming is essential for your Royal Standard Poodle all year round, but it’s especially important during the winter months. The shorter coat of the breed can make them more susceptible to dry skin, so it’s important to brush them regularly to avoid matting and ensure their skin doesn’t become irritated. A good trim can help as well, especially if they have long hair around their paws.

Schedule Outdoor Time – While it’s important to keep your furry friend warm, it’s also important to allow them some outdoor time to get fresh air and exercise. Just make sure you’re not keeping them out too long in extreme temperatures, and always be mindful of the wind chill factor.

Provide a Warm and Cozy Bed – Last but not least, make sure your Royal Standard Poodle has a warm and cozy place to sleep. You can invest in a heated dog bed or simply add some extra blankets to their bed to keep them warm and comfortable.
